What happened

  • Spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $484.9 million last Wednesday, their worst day since June, and $244.1 million more on Thursday; a $21.1 million Friday inflow left October down a net $386.3 million.
  • The 30-year Treasury yield hit 5.70%, its highest since 2002, on a day when stocks, gold and Bitcoin sold off together, according to Decrypt.
  • Decrypt says Brent is trading near $110, even after President Trump said the U.S. would not engage in war at least until November.
  • Bitcoin recovered to roughly $83,800 on Monday, about 34% below its record above $126,000 set on Oct. 6, 2025, Decrypt reported.
  • Crypto Briefing says Bitcoin has traded between $80,000 and $87,000 for much of the past month, and the Oct. 8 low tested the bottom edge without decisively breaking it.

Why it matters

  • What doesn't add up contradiction Decrypt has the index at 67 a week earlier, an 11-point slide; Crypto Briefing has it near 80 in early October, a slide of about 24. The same reading of 56 describes a drift or a drop depending on the source.
  • Who has to decide decision Anyone sizing a position has a defined test: 3.5% of room between the $80,000 floor and the 50-week average near $77,200, the two levels Crypto Briefing says keep the longer-term structure intact.
  • What it limits constraint Bitcoin pays no yield, so against a 5.70% long bond it has to earn its return in price. Decrypt says oil-led inflation makes Fed cuts harder, and Brent near $110 keeps that pressure in place.

Bitcoin has lost 2.9% in a week of falling Fed hike odds

We think the macro reading is right for the week, and the evidence under it is thinner than the confident phrasing around it. Decrypt's cross-asset evidence is the one joint selloff, and it wrote that the pattern "points to a macro trade rather than a crypto problem" [7]. Crypto Briefing wrote that the forces moving Bitcoin are "coming from Washington's debt market and Middle East energy flows, not from anything happening on-chain" [8].

Decrypt's own oil figures complicate a clean version of that story. Brent trades roughly 9% above the $101 it topped last week [20], yet Bitcoin has climbed 2.5% off its low to about $83,800 [31]. Brent "topped" $101, so Decrypt gives a floor and not a peak, and the comparison is rough. Decrypt documents the link for yields (Bitcoin fell with them on Oct. 7, it wrote) [10], but crude reaches Bitcoin in its account only through inflation, the Fed and then yields [11].

Flows are the crypto-specific channel. On Decrypt's daily figures, $484.9 million out, $244.1 million out and $21.1 million in make $707.9 million of net selling against an October net outflow of $386.3 million, so the month's earlier days must have taken in about $321.6 million [18]. BlackRock's IBIT supplied about 42.8% of the $484.9 million in redemptions [19]. Ethereum funds lost $635 million over a nine-day outflow streak [14], more than Bitcoin funds' October net. Crypto Briefing adds that the pullback came around the anniversary of the October 2025 liquidation event, when more than $19 billion in positions were wiped out [13].

Seasonality gets one line. Decrypt says sentiment has shifted, "bucking typically reliable seasonal trends" [32]. Neither publisher gives a seasonal baseline, so whether seasonality is a competing driver cannot be tested from this material.

The forward prices are less settled. Myriad traders, on a prediction market developed by Decrypt's parent company Dastan, put 45% on a touch of $87,500 in October and 56% on a drop to $80,000, both lower than on Oct. 7 [15]. From $83,800 those targets sit 4.4% above and 4.5% below [21][22], so the market gives the downside 11 points more probability for a nearly equal move [24].

Our test is simple. If Bitcoin holds above $80,000 through October with Brent near $110 and the 30-year at 5.70%, macro prices are not what is moving sentiment. If it breaks below $80,000 while yields ease, the weight shifts to the ETF outflows.

What to watch

  • Daily US spot Bitcoin ETF flows: whether October's net outflow of $386.3 million deepens or turns after Friday's $21.1 million inflow.
  • Ship attacks around the Strait of Hormuz, which Decrypt ties to Brent's move above $101, and whether Brent falls back from $110.
