GTA VI is due on PC in the first quarter of 2027, four anonymous sources tell GamesBeat

Rockstar plans to release GTA VI on PC in the first quarter of 2027, according to four anonymous sources cited by GamesBeat. That window closes under five months after the console launch, against 19 months for GTA V's PC port.

GTA VI's reported PC gap is shorter than GTA V's Console and PC release dates for GTA V and GTA VI. The GTA VI PC quarter comes from four anonymous sources cited by GamesBeat.

Timeline. GTA V released on console in September 2013 and on PC in April 2015. GTA VI launches on console on November 19, with 2026 assumed as the year. GamesBeat's anonymous sources say Rockstar plans the PC version for the first quarter of 2027.

What happened

  • GTA VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
  • Rockstar announced a 2025 window in December 2023, then moved it to May 2026 and then to November 19, so the game has slipped twice.
  • Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy told Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show that GTA VI online will launch next year.
  • GamesBeat says the PC version must pass the same quality bar as the console version before Rockstar releases it.

Why it matters

  • Who has to decide decision Teams that need GTA roleplay or mod-driven audiences must decide whether to start work before Rockstar confirms, because on GamesBeat's reading that audience cannot arrive before the PC version does.
  • What doesn't add up contradiction GamesBeat and Dexerto measure the old PC wait differently, 19 months against about a year, but both baselines are longer than the reported window, so the direction of the story does not depend on which is right.
  • What it limits constraint Rockstar has not named a PC day, so a rival picking a Q1 2027 release would have to avoid the whole three-month window.

A player who joins a GTA roleplay server today is on a PC. FiveM is a modification framework for the PC version of GTA V, and GamesBeat says 100 percent of GTA roleplaying activity across the company's servers takes place on PC [3]. Rockstar bought the team behind FiveM, Cfx.re, in August 2023 [2] and has signaled that GTA VI will include tools for user-generated content [4].

GTA V's players skew largely toward console, GamesBeat says [9]. Roleplay still happens on PC [3]. GamesBeat's reading is that a PC release is a necessary precursor to roleplay and user-generated content in GTA VI [21].

The sourcing is four anonymous people. GamesBeat describes them as industry sources familiar with the studio's plans, and says they asked for anonymity to avoid damaging business relationships [17]. A Rockstar representative did not respond to GamesBeat's request for comment [18]. Dexerto's story repeats the date and credits it to GamesBeat's October 13 report [19]. The PC release date is still unannounced [20].

GamesBeat counts GTA V's PC wait at a year and seven months, from September 2013 to April 2015 [1]. That is 19 months [13]. Dexerto describes both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption as having around a year of console exclusivity [7]. Measured from November 19 to March 31, the last day of Q1, the GTA VI window is at most 132 days [15], under a quarter of GTA V's 19 months [16]. The day count assumes a 2026 console date, which the delay history implies [6]. GamesBeat's own text at one point calls it a "November 2027 console launch" [14]. We take that as a typo.

Q1 is three months wide. The console date is firmer: Take-Two has reaffirmed it on earnings calls this year [12].

We'd plan to Q1 2027 as the working date for anything that depends on PC players, and commit nothing that cannot be undone until Rockstar says it publicly. Two questions place a team on a 2x2: does the product need GTA VI's PC players or its console players, and can the team's own date move.

- Needs PC players, date fixed: the most exposed cell, where the plan should assume the end of Q1 and carry a case for a later PC release. - Needs PC players, date movable: wait for Rockstar to name a PC date, then schedule. - Needs console players, date fixed: the console date is already firm, so the PC report changes little. - Needs console players, date movable: nothing in the report requires a change.

What to watch

  • Any Rockstar or Take-Two statement that names a PC date or moves it out of Q1 2027.
  • An announced date for GTA VI online play, which Dan Clancy places in next year and Rockstar has not dated.
  • Details of the user-generated content tools Rockstar has signaled, and whether they ship with the PC version.
