Brent crude costs $108.51 a barrel, about $47 more than a year ago

Brent crude was $108.51 a barrel at 7:45 a.m. Eastern on 16 October, up $1.84 in a day and about $47 above a year ago, Fortune reported. Its price page adds that pump prices often lag crude on the way down, so relief reaches fuel bills late.

A hot CPI could hit bitcoin through leverage the last selloff left behind, analysts say

Bitget's Ryan Lee says a September CPI hotter than the 0.6% monthly forecast could trigger another round of bitcoin liquidations. Core is forecast at only 0.2% for the month, so the leverage test depends on which line misses.

Euro's fifth weekly slide outlasts the French bond stress that drove it to $1.1161

The euro was on course for a fifth straight weekly drop on Friday, after worry over France's record debt sent it to a 17-month low of $1.1161 on Monday. The dollar index has also risen four weeks running, so the Fed's rate path now looks like a bigger driver than French budget politics.

Brent above $105 and 24-year-high bond yields push Bitcoin back to $81,000

Bitcoin fell to about $81,000 on Thursday as Brent crude rose above $105 on reports that the US may strike Iran again. Whether it holds the $82,500 support traders are watching now depends largely on Treasury yields and oil prices.

Brent holds above $100 on two supply threats of unequal size

Brent rose to $101.80 on Wednesday after a Gulf storm curtailed 185,120 barrels a day of US offshore crude and Houthi strikes damaged two Saudi airports. That loss is small beside Middle East shut-ins, so the bigger fourth-quarter cost risk runs through Gulf refineries into diesel.

Oil and 5.3% Treasury yields pull stock futures off record highs before earnings season

US stock futures slid from record highs on Wednesday and Thursday as oil rose and the 10-year Treasury yield sat between 5.28% and 5.33%. With FactSet expecting 29.5% third-quarter earnings growth, how far the rally runs now depends on whether oil keeps pushing bond yields up.

Europe's STOXX 600 fell 1.02% and the euro 0.62% on Wednesday as Brent rose to $101.83 and France's bond spread widened. Both still sit above last week's lows, the levels a Europe-exposed portfolio has to watch as the fourth quarter starts.

Crypto liquidations hit $547 million on Brent's jump as open interest slips only 1%

Crypto liquidations rose 235% to $547 million after Iran's tanker attacks pushed Brent above $101, yet futures open interest slipped only 1%. Leverage was already thin, so the selling moved token prices far more than it cleared out positions.

Brent above $100 props up the dollar ahead of the Fed's September minutes

Brent's return above $100 lifted the dollar index 0.3% to 102.13 on Wednesday, even as traders cut October Fed hike odds to 21.6% from about 51%. That leaves the dollar leaning on oil prices while the September minutes test how much appetite the Fed still has for hikes.

Georgieva's growth warning lands with US and UK government yields above 5%

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said an energy shock, record public debt and the AI boom threaten global growth, with Brent crude back above $100. For 2027 plans, the firmer signal is expensive money: US and UK government yields are above 5% while UK household spending holds up.
