Chevron's chief executive says the oil buffers that absorbed the Iran war are drained

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth says the inventories and emergency reserves that absorbed the Iran war shock are drained. The IEA expects diesel to stay tight well into 2027, so a budget that assumes early relief runs against both.

Brent holds above $100 on two supply threats of unequal size

Brent rose to $101.80 on Wednesday after a Gulf storm curtailed 185,120 barrels a day of US offshore crude and Houthi strikes damaged two Saudi airports. That loss is small beside Middle East shut-ins, so the bigger fourth-quarter cost risk runs through Gulf refineries into diesel.

Kyiv's 51% refinery claim runs well ahead of the IEA's 30% diesel decline

Ukraine says its strikes have knocked out 51% of Russia's oil refining capacity, a claim that could not be independently verified. IEA figures point to a smaller loss that Russia covers by postponing maintenance and keeping diesel at home.

G7's 100-million-barrel oil release buys a short window of diesel relief

G7 nations will release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel, front-loading diesel within 20 days and spreading the rest over four months. Russia's export ban and lost Gulf cargoes stay in place, so fuel budgets past that window face the same supply squeeze.
