Weill Cornell study ties neck lymph node removal to cognitive impairment in 18% of younger patients

Weill Cornell-led researchers found 18% of under-65 patients had cognitive impairment within two years of neck lymph node removal, versus 4-6% expected. Because the comparison is with population rates, the finding makes a firmer case for cognitive follow-up than for cutting less.

Antibody that keeps T cells out of the brain preserved memory tissue in tauopathy mice

Washington University researchers report that a CXCR3-blocking antibody halved brain T cells and spared 40% more memory-region tissue in tauopathy mice. Tau levels never fell, evidence the immune reaction to tau does much of the killing.

Salk pins lingering fear in mice on a zone between the amygdala and striatum

Salk researchers recorded and then manipulated the amygdalostriatal transition zone in freely moving mice, and report in Neuron that dopamine-expressing neurons there are needed to mount a fear response.

One Huntington variant concentrates very large repeat expansions in the neurons that die

Carriers of the CAG-CCG loss-of-interruption variant start having motor symptoms up to 12.5 years earlier than other Huntington patients. A UBC-led team measured the long expansions in their isolated striatal neurons, and saw no matching signal in blood.

A stretched exhale tilted 41 participants toward riskier choices in a scanner

Researchers at DIfE and Charite paced breathing at a two-to-eight inhale-exhale ratio and saw bolder bets alongside stronger reward-region activity. The release names the direction of the effect but not its size.

One enzyme sets the chromatin mark that links early stress to adult anxiety in mice

WashU and Princeton report that early-life stress raises SETD7 in mouse dopamine neurons, leaving stress genes easier to switch on. Blocking the mark it deposits prevented the adult phenotype.
